Trade Mark Attorney

The Opportunity

In the world of intellectual property, Abel + Imray has been at the forefront of innovation for 150 years. Within the UK, the firm has offices in London, Bath and Cardiff. Abel + Imray has a base in Munich where they prepare for EPO hearings and more recently, they opened an office in Spain to strengthen their European capability.

The firm is regarded within the profession for providing some of the highest quality service in patents, trade marks, and designs; they thrive on complicated cases but at the same time, making sure their guidance is clear and jargon-free. As a firm, there is a strong team-ethic with each attorney having the backing and support of colleagues across the offices. Clients are wide-ranging, be that global conglomerates or regional start-ups. With the firm’s values focused around providing pragmatic and clear advice, the client retention rate is extremely high.

The Role

With offices across the UK and in Spain, Abel + Imray is ready to embark on its next chapter of expansion – to open an office in the Netherlands with the appointment of two trade mark attorneys. Once this phase has been achieved, the next step will be to hire paralegal support. The over-arching objective of Abel + Imray is to establish critical mass early on, and with this, momentum to build further, whilst also ensuring full integration with the UK offices.

Abel + Imray is looking to appoint an ambitious, commercially-minded Trade Mark Attorney, authorised before the EUIPO, to take on a portfolio of EU and international cases. You will be working closely with your colleagues in the UK who in turn will be looking to you as a safe harbour as they transfer to you many of their clients who need representation at the EUIPO.

Professional Qualities

You will come to the role with the requisite experience to be able to manage clients independently and before the EUIPO. Your development will be supported, but because the trade mark team is at full capacity, it is important that you are comfortable working with autonomy and taking on a varied and interesting portfolio of clients and client cases. Your earlier career could have been in either a practice or industry setting. Both experiences are valuable to the role. What is important is that you are an experienced European Trade Mark Attorney.

The added value you bring to the role is someone with strong interpersonal skills and that you can demonstrate having worked with different stakeholders within a client organisation and are able to refine the advice according to the audience. You need to be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.
