Intellectual Property Manager

The Opportunity

A new position has been created at the global Foundry Research Centre of Excellence in Enschede, the Netherlands. Previously, Intellectual Property (IP) support was provided remotely but the need for increased IP services to the Foundry business has provided a wonderful opportunity for some-one to take a leading role in managing the IP activities for the business.

You will sit with your client who will look to you for sound strategic patent advice; you will have ownership to the IP budget and you will determine how the portfolio is managed. You will have other colleagues from the wider IP Group with whom you will share ideas and thoughts on how IP can better leverage the business. In short, you determine the future success of the IP function for Foundry and you will have a global reach to other sites of the business.

The Role

Reporting into the VP of IP the purpose of your role will be the strategic and tactical management of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of Vesuvius’ Foundry Business Unit (BU), to ensure global consistency with the business and marketing strategies of Foundry in the context of the Vesuvius Group. Your main activities will be:

  • Drafting and worldwide prosecution of patent applications; opposition and oral proceedings where required;
  • Providing patent validity and infringement advice to the Foundry BU;
  • Managing the IP Information & Formalities Officer, and IP-related activities of the Legal & IP Counsel;
  • Managing and instructing, external professional IP service providers (patents and trade mark attorneys, IP lawyers, annuity companies etc.);
  • Monitoring technology developments and competitors’ activities in respect of their Intellectual property portfolio;
  • Contributing to internal Vesuvius Group Legal activities regarding all Foundry IPR related contracts and agreements.

Professional Qualities

  • You come to this position having successfully completed your EQE, ideally with eight years post qualification experience. A national qualification and the CEIPI Diploma on Patent Litigation in Europe would be beneficial.
  • You will have a Masters’ degree in science or engineering (e.g. metallurgy, material science or chemistry).
  • At least eight years’ post qualification experience, with five or more years’ business experience of managing an international portfolio of IPR, within an international organization, to include managing innovations, patent filing/prosecution, maintenance and patent infringement.
