Associate General Counsel

The Opportunity

You join a global leader within the electronics sector; a company which serves a multitude of industries with a product portfolio extending into the thousands. You will be the Associate General Counsel (AGC) for the TE Transportation Solutions Segment – this represents an $8 billion business and over 50% of the company’s sales turnover.

The Role

Major Objectives:

After your first year working in the organisation, you will have successfully managed your international team in providing high-end IP support to this leading business group. You will have further developed your professional competences and supported your internal client on complex and challenging cases. You will have taken ownership, and developed, the IP strategy and budget and you will have built solid relations with your key stakeholders, thereby firmly establishing yourself as the Associate General Counsel for this business segment.

  • Manage and develop your global team of attorneys: You will inherit a team located in Switzerland, China and the USA, which you will be expected to lead, mentor and support as they manage their respective cases. You will give them freedom to work with the business but able to step in when they require guidance on more complex matters.
  • Manage, develop and implement a global IP strategy: After assimilating the various technologies and absorbing the nuances of the business, you will take ownership of the IP strategy and be a senior sponsor to the business and supporting functions. You will bring your own career perspective to the company and will have the scope to further shape the IP strategy in line with the commercial aims of the Transportation Solutions Segment.
  • Develop and manage the portfolio: In addition to the strategic and management components, you will also have an operational duty to handle a small portfolio of cases where there are high value issues at stake.


Professional Qualities

What you can bring to the role:

  • The breadth of technologies is extensive, hence you come with a technical profile in mechanical engineering, physics, electronics or related experience.
  • Your many years of experience in the profession will have seen you spend considerable time working in-house, having enjoyed the cultural dynamics of working in cross-functional teams. It is expected that you are European qualified.
  • As part of your armoury of skills and knowledge, will include your time spent working on transactional matters, negotiating with third parties including customers and competitors alike.
  • A key value-add you offer is your exceptional communication skills – being able to translate technical patent-related issues into a format which is clearly understand by the various commercial stakeholders of the business.
